DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION
“ The real shift isn’ t just automation, but how organisations design systems where humans and AI operate in a continuous loop. That requires a fundamentally different stack: one that brings together data grounding, orchestration and governance.
“ You see that in platforms like Microsoft Azure AI enabling multi-agent workflows grounded in enterprise data, with identity and compliance built in from the start. The result is not just productivity gains – it’ s the redesign of how work gets done across the enterprise.”
This architectural leap isn’ t just internal; it alters how financial products are distributed and consumed across the broader ecosystem.
Bill highlights an emerging trend toward“ headless” banking, driven by open protocols.
“ Agents are driving an interesting trend in how your financial product is consumed,” he says.“ In addition to the current presentation layer of your product, you can now add the ability for your customers and partners to build agents directly off your tech stack.
“ We are doing this at Microsoft by adding open agentic protocols like Model Context Protocol( MCP) to every layer of our product stack.
“ For a fintech, this means rethinking how you make your product‘ headless’ so agents can be built off it. This includes consumer AI agents like ChatGPT and Claude, and it could be B2B agents if you want agents that span workflows outside your organisation – like trade finance for example.
“ We are partnering with LSEG to do this. In addition to their traditional product CX, they show up in our AI stacks like Copilot Studio, so our customers can build agents off them if they are an LSEG customer. It’ s also a new way for them to extend the reach and distribution of their product.”
Overcoming the data fragmentation hurdle If autonomous agents are the engine of this new era, data is the fuel. Yet, tier-1 financial institutions famously sit on mountains of complex, legacy infrastructure. When asked about the biggest technical hurdle to making this data AI-ready for real-time decisioning, Bill clarifies that the roadblock is integration.
