DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION
yet only about one in four employees report clear and consistent leadership alignment on AI.
“ That gap underscores why CTOs and business leaders must align early on an AI‐augmented operating model, because the real differentiator is how the organisation evolves, not just what tools it deploys.”
The rise of the agent boss As lower-level execution and rote analytical tasks are handed off to autonomous agents, the skillsets required of financial specialists are undergoing an upskilling.
Bill describes this new archetype as a manager overseeing a digital workforce:“ As AI agents take on more routine reasoning and execution, the role of the financial specialist fundamentally shifts from doing the work to directing it. Increasingly, specialists become agent bosses – responsible for configuring, training and overseeing AI systems, while applying human judgment where it matters most.
“ This elevates the role toward higher-value activities such as client advisory, relationship management and strategic decision-making.”
We can already look to Wall Street and global wealth management firms to see this workforce transition playing out in real-time.
“ At firms like UBS, AI assistants provide client advisors with real-time insights and synthesised data, enabling more personalised and impactful engagement with clients rather than manual analysis,” Bill notes.
“ As a result, the core skillset evolves. Manual processing becomes less central, while capabilities around orchestration, governance and critical thinking become essential.
“ Financial professionals are no longer just executing workflows. They are managing intelligent systems, ensuring responsible use and translating AI-driven insights into better outcomes for clients and the business.”
