Privatised in 1996 , the company now boasts some 178mn mobile customers , as well as 20mn broadband lines . Outside of Germany , in countries such as the US and the Netherlands , the company operates under the T-Mobile brand . It was previously extant under that name in the UK before the company was merged and later sold as EE .
