The importance of quality data“ Anybody and everybody will boast they’ ve got AI,” Anuj adds.“ That’ s really not impressive. What’ s impressive to boast is that you’ ve got quality data – quality data that is unique to your business and you’ re leveraging it.” This aligns with broader industry recognition that data is the foundation of AI success. Ausenco has been set on working towards improving its data quality for years with rigorous data cleansing and integration used to avoid what Anuj calls the notorious“ garbage in, garbage out” problem.
Data governance and quality control are crucial to avoid biased or flawed AI outcomes. Without strong data integrity, algorithms risk perpetuating historical inequities or skewed decisions – issues documented extensively in healthcare AI research, where bias mitigation throughout the AI lifecycle is paramount.
Weighing up measuring impact and ethical risks To ensure AI remains effective and ethical, Anuj’ s team employs incremental implementation with rigorous metrics. AI adoption, he says, is“ like eating an elephant – the best way is in small bites”. They set“ golden gates” or milestones to measure AI impact continuously, enabling course corrections or halting that which doesn’ t create business value.
Bias detection has always been a thorny issue. Anuj says there is a proactive strategy of diversifying AI testing teams to expose algorithmic blind spots:“ There’ s plenty of things that come out that might have been missed otherwise.” Recognising bias’ persistence, Anuj believes organisational diversity is crucial to challenge assumptions baked into AI models.
But tech is only half of the problem. Using AI efficiently as a human amplifier also brings up a separate set of risks.
Rebecca Warren, Senior Director of Talent-Centred Transformation at Eightfold AI, brought the conversation into human resources and workforce transformation at Tech & AI LIVE New York. Framing human-centred AI as“ designing work so that technology amplifies and not replaces human potential”, she highlights inclusivity and skills recognition as something that‘ s about“ how we design work for people and use AI to create more equitable opportunities”.
In conversation with Rebecca, Rajh Odi, Associate Director and Talent Intelligence Lead at Bristol Myers Squibb( BMS), the pair share how AI supports rapid workforce mobilisation, particularly
