“ According to our 2021 UK Cybersecurity Census Report , over the last 12 months , the UK manufacturing industry has experienced , on average , 30 cyber attacks per organisation . With this number expected to rise in the coming years , IT decision makers and business leaders must prepare now to mitigate the risk of being breached and reduce the threat of global supply chains ultimately grinding to a halt .
The best way to achieve this ? Cravotta believes that it ' s a combination of investment and education , particularly when it comes to password and credential hygiene .

This must change , starting with awareness courses for all employees . In addition to protecting passwords , the industry must also protect machine secrets ( database credentials , API keys , digital certificates ) that are embedded in applications and most software-centric environments .
