The data challenge But while the P-8’ s sensors are powerful, they generate an overwhelming amount of data. Each sortie produces terabytes of information that must be securely stored, analysed and shared with appropriate agencies
across defence networks. This is where the partnership with NetApp comes in.
“ As maritime reconnaissance can include multiple planes daily, seven days a week, the P-8 aircraft collect vast swathes of data,” explains Piero Gallucci, AVP and GM UK & I at NetApp.“ The RAF needs to deliver relevant, accurate and secure data for timely analysis, decision and action. The result of these daily data collection sorties creates data management, analysis and security challenges that need sophisticated solutions.”
