“ We have really good interoperability with allied Maritime Patrol Aircraft,” he explains.“ We can launch sonobuoys into the sea and then hand those over to allied forces. If one aircraft is coming off station and another is coming on, we can hand over the sonobuoys so we don ' t lose track, because if you lose a submarine in the North Atlantic, you might not find it again for quite a while. It ' s like finding a needle in a haystack.” With the arrival of the Wedgetail aircraft imminent, plans are already in place to extend the data management system to accommodate this new platform.
“ We’ re now looking beyond just Poseidon," says Toby Milwright.“ With E-7 Wedgetail coming in, we want to apply the same data management principles. I don ' t just focus on Poseidon now – I look at all the ISTAR( intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance) aircraft and their data needs. It’ s about starting to join other networks together.
“ This gets us to a speedier path of data around the intelligence cycle. It’ s part of multi-domain integration, which is the highest strategic view of how we need to get things joining together, operating together, and sharing data together in a grander strategic play.”
