“ Telecom service providers are partnering and scaling to support this new bandwidth, and telecom vendors are creating new products and shortening timelines to bring products to market faster. There is a sense of urgency throughout the telecom industry, and it is stepping up to the plate.”
To see this infrastructure expansion in practice, look at EXA Infrastructure, which owns and operates more than 170,000km of fibre network across 37 countries.
“ We are a network provider from a fibre perspective but also from a product perspective, such as optical wavelength,” explains Ciarán Delaney, Chief Operating Officer at EXA Infrastructure.“ We provide capacity services and we use different network operators to deliver those services, one of them being Nokia.
“ Inferencing requires network. If you’ re in the process of building a network, you’ ve got to get permits, put duct in the ground, put fibre in that duct, and then you have got to put equipment on that fibre. It’ s all a quite lengthy process!“ However, at EXA, we’ ve been building our network for more than 20 years. We’ re in a good position to service a lot of the AI supercycles and obviously we need partners to manage that supercycle.”
