“ GPT-4 was this incredible model, and powering it are these massive data centres – now these are for LLMs,” Alexander says.“ We’ ve also had a revolution on small language models, which go directly down onto edge devices.”
For years, a huge performance gap existed between foundation models hosted in cloud data centres and small language models designed to run locally.“ The gap between large language and small language models has always been around,” Alexander adds.
