Preparations for Artemis III involve Honeywell Aerospace providing the core flight systems and computing architecture.
Reflecting on the programme’ s progression, Lisa emphasises the foundation established by earlier test flights:“ Artemis I and II paved the way for Artemis III by validating the systems needed for future lunar missions. Honeywell Aerospace was a part of the Artemis I mission, which included guidance and navigation systems and flight software.
“ Honeywell Aerospace also supported Artemis II with Orion’ s guidance and navigation systems, command and data handling hardware, displays and control units and core flight software. Between the Orion Capsule and the Space Launch System( SLS) Rocket, Honeywell Aerospace provided 19 parts and technologies to support the mission.
“ As Artemis III builds on this foundation, the continued use of these technologies can demonstrate the strength and continuity of Honeywell Aerospace’ s long-standing partnership with NASA and its role in supporting the return of humans to the Moon and long-term lunar exploration.”
Honeywell’ s onboard computing technology will manage sensor data during the Artemis III programme.

the guidance, navigation, control and propulsion flight software,” Lisa continues.
The flight computer shows where the spacecraft is and how fast it is moving by combining GPS, motion sensors and star measurements. If GPS cuts out, it switches to relying on its backup sensors to stay on course.
Comparing today’ s digital architecture to Honeywell’ s legacy during the Apollo era highlights a fundamental shift in aerospace engineering.
