Meta plans to commercialise its AI computing resources and enter the cloud infrastructure market would position it as a competitor to AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud. The cloud computing strategy includes different service tiers for various customer needs. One option would allow external developers to buy query access to AI models running on Meta-owned infrastructure.
This access could include Meta’ s proprietary Muse Spark system, with developers paying to use the models without managing the underlying hardware.
A second offering would provide direct GPU capacity rental. Customers could access raw computing power for their own applications and workloads. Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, discussed the commercial opportunity during a shareholder meeting in May, where he described regular approaches from potential customers.
He said:“ Almost every week there are different companies that come to us from the outside asking us to both stand up an API service or asking if we have compute that they could buy from us at some premium to what we’ ve bought it at.”
