CLOUD COMPUTING

Broadcom has signed a long-term agreement with Standard Chartered to build what the companies describe as a secure, resilient private cloud foundation. The deal addresses the need to modernise financial infrastructure across the bank’ s operations in 54 markets. The collaboration centres on VMware Cloud Foundation, Broadcom’ s private cloud platform.

Broadcom acquired VMware in 2023, and VMware Cloud Foundation has since become central to the company’ s enterprise private cloud strategy.
Standard Chartered has transitioned its infrastructure delivery to a softwaredefined private cloud environment powered by VMware Cloud Foundation. The platform embeds Zero Trust security – which operates on the principle of never assuming implicit trust and always verifying – into the infrastructure layer. The VMware Cloud Foundation platform integrates security at the infrastructure level rather than as an additional layer. This could mean the bank has security verification embedded in its core operations.
The approach values resilience alongside security and the architecture is designed to maintain uninterrupted availability for essential banking services.
As regulatory requirements for banks become more complex, the new infrastructure could support the bank’ s compliance efforts across different regulatory environments.
John Sharratt, Global Head of Technology and Infrastructure at Standard Chartered, explains:“ Our client-centric, long-term investments with global service providers, such as Broadcom, strengthen our ability to deliver always-on banking services in an ever changing and dynamic landscape, while accelerating innovation with a secure private cloud foundation.”
