“ Utilities are highly regulated by governments and there’ s very little that they can do to move quickly,” Steven says.
The fix, in his view, is shared data rather than shared culture.
“ If the utilities could know when the data centre is going to have a high demand, that would be very helpful,” he says.“ And if the data centre knew when the utility was going to be stressed, it would also be very helpful.
“ We’ re using AI on the data centre side to look at different things like weather patterns and energy distribution management systems,” Steven notes, adding that distribution management systems are already helping utilities and operators decide where power should be drawn from.
