The rapid retirement of specialised technical expertise, with many of our senior engineers approaching retirement by 2030, creates an urgent need for knowledge transfer that traditional approaches cannot easily address.
Most critically, this infrastructure burden was preventing EUROCONTROL from focusing on its core mission of advancing European aviation. Instead of developing innovative air traffic management solutions, enhancing safety systems or creating next-generation collaborative platforms for stakeholders, our talented engineers were spending much of their time managing infrastructure management, performing routine maintenance and fighting to upgrade systems to keep them operational.
By shifting to cloud-based services and automated pipelines, we are steadily redirecting scarce expertise toward strategic initiatives that directly benefit European aviation, developing AI-powered traffic optimisation, implementing advanced safety analytics and creating seamless digital services for our stakeholders.
This transformation liberates our workforce from the infrastructure treadmill, enabling them to focus on what truly matters: ensuring the safety, efficiency and innovation of European airspace.
