“ The UK has one of the richest AI communities anywhere on the planet, the deepest thinkers, the best universities and amazing startups like DeepMind,” Jensen says.
“ The UK is singular compared to any other region.”
He emphasises that Britain is the third largest AI venture capital market globally, following the US and China. This combination of research excellence and investment capital creates what he describes as ideal conditions for AI infrastructure expansion.
“ Between these two ideas that the UK is wealthy with great computer scientists, it’ s a fantastic place for VCs to invest.”
“ I’ m just excited about London – and I’ ll make this prediction: Because of AI, every industry in the UK will be a tech industry,” Jensen says.
“ The UK has the most abundant, the most critical of resources. Its natural resources are the AI researchers, the AI entrepreneurs and it has an abundance of them. It’ s the envy of the world.”
What is holding the UK’ s AI growth back? The UK’ s £ 2bn investment programme includes £ 1bn( US $ 1.35bn) specifically targeted at AI infrastructure development, with the remainder supporting digital skills training and data centre expansion initiatives.“ Almost everything we had in our action plan that we produced in January of this year was as a result of conversations with people in this room and beyond this room,” the Prime Minister says.
